Weed as a Religion

It was God who created cannabis ( weed ) hemp and told mankind to use “every green herb” on Earth. The Bible speaks of mercy, healing and a persecution of God’s children. They persecute me wrongfully; help thou me. (Psalms 119:86) Prisons and drug wars do not save souls. The Lord… hath sent me to bind up the broken hearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives and the opening of the prison to them that are bound. (Isaiah 61:1)
Anyone living in Denver in the USA can change their religion and visit a new house of worship. This is the International Church of Cannabis, which is opening its doors for Elevationaists on 20 April. Elevationaists according to the landlord of the church and founder, Steve Berke, believe that one can find a path to spiritual fulfillment with the ritual use of smoking cannabis.

The church is 113 years old, and it has just been renovated, with plenty of color of course, as it will be the home for stoners. It has been said to be the first big venue in the world where adults can gather to legally smoke cannabis in a social environment. The church has taken over what once was a Lutheran church, and founding member Berke said that the life stance of people visiting the church is that the spiritual journey of the individual, along with the search for meaning, may be accelerated by the ritual use of cannabis. However, the church is not going to be a place where cannabis is sold, and neither are accessories for smoking. It is a place to get together and enjoy weed, and there will be documentary films screened along with host guest speakers, comedians, musicians, and artists.

The outside of the newly renovated church has a mural on the wall that was painted by artists Kenny Scharf, his most well-known work was in the 80s in New York’s East Village. The inside of the church was painted by Okuda San Miguel, an artist from Spain, who painted the ceilings vibrant designs. It is said to be a visceral experience when walking into a church that dates back 113 years to see all the color. Of course, it might look even better for those inside who are stoned. Even though the church has an association with marijuana, the new landlord said that it wasn’t just lazy potheads coming together and getting as high as they can. He went on to say that the church wanted to make a big impact on the neighborhood and they wanted to do good things for the community.
